Since its initiation in 2008 Coke studio has been one of the most awaited seasons of the year! Every year they come up with a phenomenal fusion of culture, rock, pop and tradition!
The ninth season of Coke Studio was again produced by the band Strings and Coca-Cola Company, but this time with six music directors, Noori,Shani Arshad, Jaffer Zaidi, Faakhir, Shiraz Uppal and Shuja Haider. This was the first time in the history of Coke Studio that six musicians served as music directors the complexity and complications are imaginable and honestly many of us didn’t think they’d be able to pull it off!!
Earlier this year singer Atif Aslam, broke all allegiance from coke studio claiming that coke studio’s success in the previous seasons was because of his singles and this time he’d see how coke studio would fare without him. Ouch!! Seems like the only one who didn’t fare well without them is Atif. Coke studio made records!
The ninth season went from August 13, and it’s final episode aired on September 2, 2016 with was off the charts because of one special feature!! Qawwal singer Amjad Sabri, marked his first and final appearance on Coke Studio with the song “Rang” , he was accompanied by Rahay Fateh Ali khan, it was after 40 years that these descendants of the Sabri and Khan clan sung together!! His song was awaited by the entire nation, as it Aires after his unfortunate demise during mid 2016.
Another remarkable first in the season was the appearance, of the Indian singer Shilpa Rao, which marked her debut on Coke Studio Pakistan, becoming the first singer from India to feature on a Pakistani musical series.
We can’t wait for the next season already! Meanwhile let’s listen to these tracks on repeat!
