Last Friday, on 24th of March The Society for I AM KARACHI (IAK) celebrated their second IAK Awards ceremony at the National Sailing Centre. Carrying on the same legacy the second edition of the awards too is attended by Creme da la Creme. The night was full of colors, music, exuberance and a celebration of our own city Karachi.
I AM Karachi (IAK) is a movement, a campaign run by like minded concerned citizens and civil society organizations of Karachi. I AM KARACHI aims to collectively rebuilt the diversity of the social and cultural fabric of the city by providing a platform to the like minded concerned individuals who are committed to promote socio- cultural activities and campaigns as a vehicle for peace building through Sports, Arts, Culture and Dialogues.
The I AM Karachi Awards are designed for a purpose to acknowledge the unsung heroes of Karachi, people who have made contributions and made sacrifices for great interest of the city and its citizens. These heroes are largely ignored so the purpose of this Award ceremony is to recognize their contribution and acknowledge them as our great heroes.
The Second edition of IAK Awards have six categories on which the awards are distributed that are hope, pride, ownership, diversity, inclusivity and resilience. However instead six categories a revamped IAK added one more category for the extraordinary services in an inspired move and all categories are renamed as echoes of virtues they represents with the Icons of Karachi. Ruth Pfau for Ownership, Jahangir Khan for Pride, Preween Rahman for Resilience, Sabeen Mahmud for Diversity and Ardeshir Cowasjee for Inclusivity, Bilquis Edhi for hope and Mr. Edhi for special awards.
The Award ceremony was graced by the soulful performances of Ustad Mumtaz Ali khan, Mai Dhai, Alycia Dias, Hatta Qawwais and Leila Khan. Mr FAIZAN haqque moderated the entire night between the awardees and the performances from the stars.The night was summed up by an Oath taking ceremony lead by Mr Ghazi Salahuddin in which all hundreds of attendees made a promise that they will continue to develop and Safeguard Karachi to the best of their ability.
