A man who needs no introduction, no first, last or other name; the name people in pain gasp out, the name that people in need cry out, a name that the dead bodies of thousands are shrouded in, “Ehdi”
For a long time people just reaped the benefits of this man’s philanthropy and humanity, whenever a problem occurred, he was there, almost like a guardian angel. He protected the rich poor, old and young, alive and dead people alike.
Abdul Sattar Ehdi has been working and providing tirelessly amongst us, protecting our own and those we don’t care for. The man has shrouded and buried more than 20,000 bodies, once human bodies. It’s only now when old age and hard work is taking a toll on this man, when his body has gotten too frail to match his enormous heart and good will, that we’re noticing the first time , what will happen if this man no longer lives. All those people in need, who cry out for one man, worry that one day they’ll scream and nobody would be there. The ‘Angel of mercy’ is mortal after all…
Abdul Sattar Ehdi was orphaned at the age of 19 and since that age he felt the pain of not just himself but also the thousands of people around him. From a public donation of Rs. 200,000 he started this trust and worked tirelessly to extend it where ever anybody is in need.
“I want to request the people not to invite me to social gatherings and inaugural ceremonies. This only wastes my time which is wholly devoted to the well being of our people.”- Ehdi (1991)
Recently his health plummeted due to a failed kidney and that made many of the authorities, responsible for the people, realize that the man who is helping out everyone needs their help now.
A lot of ministers, organizations and celebrities have come up to offer their support and help him out in this crucial time. He refused the offers of medical treatment abroad made by the former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in favor of staying in Pakistan for treatment. The Chairman of Bahria town has offered to bear all of Mr. Ehdi’s medical expenses but no such offer was made by the government. Apparently a lowly bouquet was
enough in their eyes for such a respected and precious life.
“Whenever a human falls ill, we treat them. Whenever an animal needs our help, we are there to help them,”-bilquess Ehdi.
PCB has even taken the approval from ICC and the team will now be donning jerseys with Ehdi’s logo. Many donations have been made and people in power are promising a change in their conduct, promising to take on responsibility from now onwards.
