The Beauty Queen  Mahira Khan is currently in London to attend the 20th UK Asian Film Festival 2018 that will run in four cities across the United Kingdom from 14th to 25th March. The theme of this year’s Film Festival 2018 is “F-Rated”, which  stands for films based on feminism and it is a specified rating assigned to the films that have recognized the role of women in a progressive way and it welcomes all those powerful and strong ladies who supported women empowerment. Our beauty queen has brought us another proud moment, Mahira Khan has been presented with the Contribution to Film and Activism Award at the UK Asian Film Festival! She is given the award for her role in Verna, the movie will also be screened at this festival on 16th March.

Verna, a social drama starring Mahira Khan and debutant Haroon Shahid, is a powerful call to action for those who wronged by the system who are deprived of their right to justice. Due to its difficult yet deeply relevant subject matter, the film faced severe pushback from the Pakistani censor board and we are thankful to include it in this year’s line up to help spread the powerful message of the film. This screening will be introduced by special guest Mahira Khan, and will be preceded by the short film Unsilencing Sabeen.
